Tech Showcase at Grand Rapids Art Museum will welcome students to explore
the bank’s metaverse experience
WHAT: More than 500 middle-school students from Grand Rapids and surrounding school districts will get the chance to experience a groundbreaking virtual-reality training system used by Bank of America during the Grand Rapids Tech Week Tech Showcase planned for Sept. 19.
The Tech Showcase, sponsored by Bank of America, is an interactive event at the Grand Rapids Art Museum for sixth-to-eighth grade students from River City Scholars Charter Academy, Kentwood Public Schools, Fennville Public Schools, Godfrey Lee Public Schools and Lowell Public Schools. Events during Tech Week will focus on strengthening the Grand Rapids tech talent pipeline and exposing the region’s students, particularly from underserved communities, to the experiences that a career in technology can bring.
Students will receive first-hand experience in a first-of-its kind metaverse/virtual technology delivered by The Academy at Bank of America to better understand a day in the life of a Bank of America employee. The Academy technology is an example of how VR and other advanced technology is being used by the bank to meet the demands of today’s high-tech workplace.
WHEN: Media are invited to attend the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bank of America spokespersons and students attending the Tech Showcase VR experience will be available to media.
Media are also invited to experience the VR technology themselves as part of a media preview offered at 8:15 a.m.
WHY: Bank of America’s immersive approach to learning offers students attending the Tech Showcase a glimpse of groundbreaking technology that will enhance the capabilities and technical abilities of workers in all areas of banking and other industries, while also providing exceptional teammate experiences in their future jobs.
The Tech Showcase is a part of Tech Week Grand Rapids, a multi-day collection of events from September 18-23, designed to showcase the Grand Rapids region's vibrant tech community. Events range from hands-on tech exhibits and panel discussions to pitch competitions and networking opportunities.
