CreativeMornings Grand Rapids: CURRENT with Kevin Buist

CreativeMornings Grand Rapids envisions a united and connected creative community. Every month, we host a free event that gathers to foster these connections. Each event features a speaker from the creative community, plus coffee and breakfast. We gather like-minded people to share inspiration and high-fives. Everyone is creative. Everyone is welcome.

September's theme is CURRENT, chosen by the Columbia chapter of CreativeMornings. CURRENT invites reflection on where we are now and where we’re headed. It’s the electricity of now, the momentum of change, and the flow of creativity.

Our speaker Kevin Buist is an independent critic, filmmaker, and design strategist. He was formerly the Artistic Director of ArtPrize, where he oversaw artists, operations, and design. He is currently Director of Business Development at Nextpoint studio, a digital creative agency in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He holds a MA in Visual and Critical Studies from Kendall College of Art and Design. He has directed dozens of short-form documentaries around the world. His writing has been featured in numerous print and online publications including Artforum, Outland, the Art:21 Blog (where he was a Blogger in Residence), MNartists.org, Michigan Quarterly Review, and more. He has presented academic papers at the Institute for the Study of Latin American Art at NYU and the College Art Association Annual Conference. He has delivered lectures at many conferences and events, including The International Council of Fine Arts Deans’ Annual Conference, Museum Next, the University & College Designers Association Conference, and more.
